Stock Market Game SUMMARY

Apparently the game that I joined has finished already, so I will now summarize my performance and thoughts related to the stock market game. On the whole, I did not make very many transactions, and I bought shares from only a few companies. As I said in my last post, Henry took first place–I wonder what stock he even used. I finished in fifth place, which I thought was pretty good–considering that, quite honestly, I really did not try very hard at this game. I finished with a total equity of $101,921.48, with about $72,700 worth of cash remaining. I think I did well for my first exposure to sojmething like the stock market, and I am proud of myself for having made a fast recovery to finish in the top five.

As far as the stocks I held goes, I have a few honorable–and dishonorable–mentions. Probably the most reliable stock that I bought was AutoZone–AZO. Almost every day of the stock market, AZO was making me money. AZO, even when down, was never really out. On the other hand, AAPL, while good at some points, killed me when it was down. On the whole, I would say that AAPL was the long-term liability in the stock market, because when Japan got blasted over spring break, AAPL got killed with it. AZO and AAPL were my two most distinguished stocks for the duration of the stock market game.

Although I think I did pretty well in the stock market, I’ll admit that there were certain things that I should or shouldn’t have done. One thing I should have definitely done was buy more AZO stocks at the beginning. I only had 120 at most, and having more definitely would’ve increased my total equity–and I could have gotten more for my sale of my AZO stocks at the end. I believe that I should not have bought AGL, ETR, or XNPT. When I bought those stocks, they just brought my equity down–and whenever they were up, the gains were insignificant. I probably should have sold AAPL prior to spring break–that way I could have avoided many weeks of pain. Then again, the Japanese incedent was rather unprecedented, so there was really nothing I could have done. I also should have waited until the last day to sell my AAPL stocks; the two days after I sold AAPL, it was much higher. I admit that there were many mistakes that I made when competing in the stock market, but I still had a fun time with this game because it was, for me, at least, a good, new learning experience.

Another day of the stock market. The market is fairly high today. I am still in 5th place at the moment. I am holding onto 50 AGL shares, 50 ETR shares, 250 F shares, and 70 AZO shares. All of my stocks are still up. AGL is my only loser–I am still only losing $19.00. AZO, F, and ETR are greatly benefiting me. Only 3 days remain, so it doesn’t seem likely that I can do much of anything else anymore. If my calculations are correct, it’s all over on sunday, a day on which the stock market is closed. It appears as though selling AAPL was my last move in the stock market. It appears as though Henry will stay in first place, yet I am content with accepting 5th place in the end. I still think I should have sold my other stocks though. This is Francisco Neal, signing off.

A good day of the stock market. The market is up today again. My stocks have been shooting up like crazy. Henry may still be in first, but I am catching up to him, as I am in 5th place. I have sold my AAPL stocks–close to 120–and I made nearly $52,000. AZO, AGL, ETR, and F are all up. AGL is my only loser while ETR, F, and AZO are raking in the cash. AZO is worth a crapload of money right now. As soon as it reaches a sigificant value, I am going to sell it for some major money. I will not sell my other stocks until they incrase greatly in value. That is all.

4/19/11 Another good day of the stock market. The market is fairly high today, and most of my stocks have actually gained in value. I will not have any time to make transactions today. I might be somewhere around 10th or 9th place at the moment. I have definately improved ever since yesterday. All of my stocks are up. AAPL and AGL are my losers. F, AZO, and ETR are my gainers at the moment. Henry is still in first. I am pondering whether I should sell all of my stocks or not. That is all.

4/20/11 A very good day of the stock market today. The market is very high today, and I have actually improved a lot. All of my stocks have shot up in value. AAPL and AGL are the only stocks that are losing me money. For once my gains–thanks to AZO, ETR, and F–are far exceeding my losses. Henry is still in first, and I have accepted that taking first place is next to impossible at this point, as we have only four days left. I have gone up from 11th to 6th place, so I have improved my standing. From now until the end, I will mainly be selling off all of the stocks that I own. That is all.

Another day of the stock market. The market is being slaughtered today, as the DOW is down 234 points–ouch. I am not doing too well either. All of my stocks are down–AZO, AAPL, AGL, F, and ETR. AZO is my only money-maker–as usual. ETR, F,AGL, and AAPL are stinking it up. Henry is still in first, but even he has lost some money. I need to find the most successful category of stocks at the moment, and then get some stocks that look good. That is all.

Another day of the stock market. 10 days of the stock exchange remain. The market is up a little today. ETR, AGL, and AZO are up. AAPL and F are down. AZO is still mky only money-maker at the moment. The other four stocks are still slaughtering me. I am currently in 11th place. Henry is still in 1st place. I will search for possible solutions to my problem within the next few days. That is all.

Another day of the stock market. The market is being slaughtered today, as the DOW is way down. I’m not doing too well either. I have recovered to 10th place, but I’m still losing some money. Today, AZO is the only set of shares that is helping me. AGL, ETR, F, and (STIIILLLL) AAPL are brutalizing me. Henry is still in 1st place. I am going to search for the best stocks I can find right now; that is all I can really do to help me get back into the top 5. That is all.

Another day of the stock market. The market is up today, but I am still sliding down the ranks. I am currently holding six kinds of stocks. AGL, AAPL, ETR, and XNPT are losing me massive amounts of cash. AZO and F are up, but the gains are a mere fraction of the losses. I just cannot seem to find any stocks that are working for me. I have actually further gone down in rank ever since I bought the three new stock sets. I am already in 12th place. I am just going to sell my 100 XNPT shares to lighten the damage–hopefully.
